Volunteer Appreciation Week

Providing a year-long, in-residence recovery program takes a community of people! There are many aspects to the Teen Challenge program – each adding to the overall experience of our clients.

We have an amazing staff that give of themselves each day, but we also have countless men and women that give generously of their time to enrich the lives of our clients. We are celebrating the many volunteers that serve our ministry! Their unseen acts of kindness are investments into the lives of our clients.

There are five elements in our recovery model and each of them provide ample opportunities for volunteers to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand.

Each of our centres are removed from the hustle and bustle of city centres and the triggers and temptations that often reside there. That typically means there’s plenty of work to be done on our rural properties. Whether it’s clearing snow, removing fallen tree branches, or cutting grass – our grounds need intentional care.

They also offer space for beautiful flower beds and bountiful gardens. With volunteers that can offer their green thumb, our clients benefit from this therapeutic work in the soil.

Volunteer drivers help take clients to appointments. This practical way to serve lends itself to meaningful conversations in the car!

Although counselling is reserved for our accredited staff, we have volunteers that provide mentorship to men and women across our centres.

We are blessed to have many volunteers help in this area of our program. From active pastors to retired clergy, these individuals show up to help guide our clients through Bible studies, chapels, and answer tough questions about their faith.

We have men and women helping to run Alpha and Celebrate Recovery programs, musicians that bring their instruments and lead a time of worship, and others that help out with church outreaches and choir events.

The possibilities are endless for people looking to share their time and heart.

Rebuilding a life after addiction can feel overwhelming, but when equipped with the right tools for success, our graduates are unstoppable! Part of our recovery program is developing skills through work therapy which can include janitorial duties or helping in the kitchen. We have some outstanding volunteers that love to serve in the kitchen – helping our clients expand their knowledge and refine their techniques.

Men and women with business and leadership skills share their knowledge when it comes to finances, building a resume, and refining interview skills.

Our volunteers have such a heart for this ministry, they think of everything! Before men and women even arrive, we have volunteers that prepare “welcome packages” to encourage new clients. Similarly, many church groups prepare Christmas gifts or provide tickets to a game, order in pizza, or special snacks for the Super Bowl.

While men and women are working on their recovery, there are many hobbies and interests they can explore which gives them healthy options for their next chapter. We have volunteers that share their skills and talents through electives like run club, music lessons, song-writing circle, woodworking, and handicrafts just to name a few.

Time, Talent, Treasure

1 Peter 4:10 tells us, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.”

What is your gift? How are you using it to serve others? If you’d like to pay it forward to the ministry of Teen Challenge Canada, we’d love to talk to you! Your talents—whether practical, creative, or relational—help shape an environment where transformation can happen.

We all have a gift to give – our time, our talent, or our treasure.

One may called to give their time, another shares their talent, and someone else offers their support financially. When we all come together to support the mission of Teen Challenge, something powerful happens—lives change.

Recovery is not a journey you do alone. You walk the road with a community of supporters.
